Tournament #9: Preview & Betting Odds

The day all foosbooze players have been waiting for is almost here.

Tournament #9 will be played with the most competitors ever. Nine players will be looking at their chance at greatness in the Magic City.

Foosbooze.com reached out to the competitors to see their views on the upcoming tournament.

Past Champions

Every day I wake up and p*ss excellence.

– Ricky

“No pressure at all. Nothing has changed since the first competition I participated in,” foosbooze’s only undefeated player, Ricky, stated when asked if he felt any extra pressure. When asked about how he feels about fellow competitor JC being the closest to beating him, Ricky replied, “JC got close because of the home field advantage but it will not happen again.” It should be noted that out of all match-ups to have been played at least three times, the Ricky vs JC match-up is the closest in terms of points, with Ricky holding only a 30-24 advantage. When asked what he wanted to say to his fellow competitors, he confidently stated, “Every day I wake up and p*ss excellence.”

“…It will always be a special memory, minting the new table with a home win. Movies are made of such events, glad I’m able to enjoy the moment. Gotta stay humble.”

– Juan

The other two favorites to win it all, foosbooze players Juan and Fernando, also did not shy away from expectations. Juan recently held (and won) the first tournament in the Queen City, which featured the original four foosbooze players. “Felt good to protect the home field. It will always be a special memory, minting the new table with a home win. Movies are made about such events, glad I’m able to enjoy the moment. Gotta stay humble,” he told foosbooze.com. When asked about the upcoming tournament, he seemingly dismissed Fernando’s chances and only focused on Ricky, by replying, “I’m not making any predictions, I’m just going to state facts. Ricky has never lost. I have never played Ricky. We both have 2 titles and will be trying to tie with Fernando at 3.”

“…From here on out, I’ll be champ again, it’s decided… Get ready to drink pu*os!”

– Fernando

“I thought it would be fair to let them win a few. If I kept winning, everyone would get bored and wouldn’t want to play anymore,” Fernando mentioned when asked to what he owed his current championship slump. Fernando was definitely the most dominant foosbooze player in the sport’s early years, winning it all 3 times in his first 4 tournament appearances. However, since he last won it all more than 7 years ago, three different foosbooze players have won championships. “I think 7 years is enough of a head start for the rest of the players. From here on out, I’ll be the champ again, it’s decided. Get ready to drink pu*os!”

“Nebraska, Tennessee, and Fernando. The biggest ‘have-beens’ history has ever seen.”

– JC

There have been rumors of other foosbooze players describing Fernando as a “have-been” due to his championship slump. When asked what he thought of these rumors, Fernando replied with, “As I previously mentioned, the ‘have-been’ character is by design to allow other players a few minutes of fame before they get buried again. If you don’t mind, can you tell me who called me a ‘have-been’ so I can make sure I give that person a few extra goalie goals this tournament?” He then called out JC by stating, “Also, I would like to give a special shout out to our host JC, I just hope he doesn’t end up dead last again this tournament…”

“Nebraska, Tennessee, and Fernando. The biggest ‘have-beens’ history has ever seen,” foosbooze player JC proclaimed. When told of Fernando’s “special shout out,” JC went on a rant that included claims he was drugged last tournament in the Magic City. “Look, it is pretty clear that I was drugged. They are allegedly claiming it was a mistake, by giving me sleeping meds before the tournament, but I think this was an inside job and Fernando is the prime suspect.” No real evidence has been found to verify these claims, but there are rumors Fernando had been seen shaking hands with people close to JC after the tournament was over.

Battle of Shutouts

“10-0 he gets shut out twice”

– Agustin

Tournament #9 has a very intriguing match-up. When seeds #4 and #5 play, it will mark a battle of the only two players to have ever been shutout, Agustin and Gus. Gus is a veteran of the sport, being the player with most foosbooze games ever played. However, he is coming off his worst tournament participation in almost 8 years, and his last match ended with him being shutout at the hands of JC.

“Scared Money Don’t Make Money.”

– Gus

Foosbooze.com contacted Agustin to share his thoughts on this upcoming match and if he cared to give a prediction of the final scored. Agustin put it succinctly: “10-0 he gets shut out twice.” When Gus found out about Agustin’s statement, he simply replied with, “Scared Money Don’t Make Money.”

The Newbies

Not counting the first tournament, there has never been a tournament with more new faces than what Tournament #9 will showcase. Isa, Pedro, and Dante will all be looking to make their marks on the sport for the first time.

“Gus is building models of deez n…”

– Dante

Dante was not scared to speak his mind and called out Gus right away. “Gus is building models of deez n…,” he was quick to say. When Gus heard of these comments, he replied with, “I’ll build it at work the next day. I won’t be hangover anyway. I’m not losing to Dante.” Dante ended the back-and-forth with, “Gus, get your popcorn ready.”

“I’ll build it at work the next day. I won’t be hangover anyway. I’m not losing to Dante.”

– Gus

Pedro, on the other hand, had quite the opposite reaction when he received his first invite to a foosbooze tournament. “I’ll try my best not to die,” he said when he accepted the invitation.

“I’ll try my best not to die.”

– Pedro

It is worth mentioning that all three new foosbooze players are facing a tough task. Excluding Ricky and the first tournament, new foosbooze players are a combined 1-12 in tournaments (the lone win being a massive upset win by Agustin against Juan in Tournament #7). They have been outscored by a combined margin of 63-126, with 9 goalie goals against, 5 own goals, and a shutout. The good news (if any) is that one of them is guaranteed at least one win.

History Will Be Made

Last but certainly not least, aside from being the largest foosbooze tournament ever and having three new players, Tournament #9 will be historic in a different way. For the first time ever, a woman will play in a foosbooze tournament. Player Isa will break barriers and looks to shock the world. Best of luck to her!
